Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen claims he ‘feared’ Adrian Newey’s Red Bull exit

Adrian Newey’s exit from Red Bull has been set in stone amidst the ongoing season. The aero-genius will not stay at Milton Keynes beyond early 2025. Hence, things could go either way for the Austrian giant in the the pinnacle of motorsport with the 2026 regulations Amidst the shocking revelation, Max Verstappen ‘s father Jos Verstappen shared his piece of mind on the move.

Jos Verstappen claimed that he feared such a situation for Red Bull during the season’s beginning. The Dutchman asserted that the team ran the danger of falling apart due to Adrian Newey‘s dismissal. According to Verstappen, multiple key people needed to stay within the team for ‘internal peace’. The Dutchman had previously blamed Christian Horner for the tensions within the team.

The team is in danger of falling apart. I was afraid of that earlier this year. For internal peace, it is important that key people stay on board. That is not the case now. Jos Verstappen said, as reported by telegraaf.nl.

The 52-year-old pointed out that even Helmut Marko might be leaving Red Bull soon with Newey’s departure. Hence, Red Bull would need to accustom themselves to work without the presence of such capable individuals. The upcoming regulation change will be highly exciting to witness how the Austrian constructor copes with the regulations. Regardless, Verstappen highlighted that all this was not a ‘good sign’ for the team’s future.

Newey leaves and at the beginning of the season it seemed that Helmut would also be sent away. It is not a good sign for the future. Jos Verstappen noted.

Christian Horner claims Adrian Newey leaves Red Bull ‘as a true legend’

Team principal Christian Horner was amongst the many disappointed with Adrian Newey’s exit. The 50-year-old reflected upon Newey’s stint with Red Bull in the past 20 years. Horner claimed that the past 19 years working alongside the aero-genius were ‘enormous fun’. According to the Red Bull team boss, the engineer was already a ‘superstar car designer’ and now would leave Red Bull as a legend due to the 13 championship victories for the constructor.

The past 19 years with Adrian have been enormous fun. For me, when Adrian joined Red Bull, he was already a superstar designer. Two decades and 13 Championships later he leaves as a true legend. Christian Horner said, as reported by skysports.com.

Horner and Newey were not just work colleagues but more like family after working together for so long. The team principal mentioned that he was eternally grateful to the 65-year-old for everything he did for the constructor. Newey’s legacy will always be remembered within Milton Keynes and will continue on. However, it is believed that tensions between Horner and Newey for the reason for the latter’s exit.

He is also my friend and someone I will be eternally grateful to for everything he brought to our partnership. The legacy he leaves behind will echo through the halls of Milton Keynes and RB17 Track Car will be a fitting testament and legacy to his time with us. Christian Horner concluded.

Adrian Newey has been with Red Bull ever since the team’s inception back in 2005. Hence, even the 65-year-old had a great family-like bond with the Milton Keynes crew. Newey will no longer contribute towards the team’s F1 efforts, focusing solely on the RB17. As things currently are, the Englishman could consider a move to Ferrari or Mercedes amidst the highly interesting offers.
