Red Bull partner reveals its extended contribution amidst rumors of being behind schedule
IPA

Ford is working with Red Bull to build its own power units in F1 for 2026. The American giant will re-enter Formula 1 after almost 22 years in the 2026 season. Hence, Red Bull has great hopes from the manufacturer to provide an impressive engine. Amidst the 2024 season, Ford has revealed their extended contribution to the Austrian constructor.

Ford was reportedly set to consider ditching Red Bull by the coming season due to Christian Horner‘s investigation saga. However, after the independent investigation cleared Horner of any allegations, the rumors quieted down. Ford is now all ready to provide their support to Milton Keynes despite being behind schedule on engine development.

Speaking upon the development, Ford CEO Mark Rushbrook provided clarity on the situation. Rushbrook mentioned that Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Turbo were not on Ford’s list for Red Bull. However, the American giant has knowledge of modeling and testing. Hence, the engine manufacturer can provide help to the Austrian team in Formula 1 regarding the same.

The internal combustion engine and turbo were not on the initial list of things we would contribute to, but in terms of modelling and testing, we have knowledge that can help with that. Mark Rushbrook said, as reported by nl.motorsport.com.

Ford will continue developing the engine in those aspects as well. However, the manufacturer’s main focus will still be electrical components for the chassis. Regardless, the American auto giant is all set to provide direct and technical support for other elements as well. As a result, Red Bull’s deal with Ford might prove highly beneficial depending on the capability of the engine in the new regulations.

So that is now being used, although our main focus is still on the electrical components. There is direct, technical support for all those elements from people on my team at the campus in Milton Keynes. Mark Rushbrook noted.

Mark Rushbrook believes Red Bull Ford Powertrains ‘in good shape’

The regulation changes for the 2026 season meant that every manufacturer was unaware of the data. Multiple manufacturers will try their best to provide the teams with the best engine. Hence, Mark Rushbrook showered unwavering belief in Ford and Red Bull’s capabilities to manufacture a great engine for Red Bull. The CEO claimed that the team had their own set goals for the power unit and they knew what was needed.

I can only say that we have set our own goals for the power unit based on experience and what we think is needed to be successful in 2026. Mark Rushbrook added.

However, the American executive accepted that the manufacturer was unaware of where the competition was or their development curve against Red Bull. Ford didn’t have any sources to draw a direct comparison with the power unit development for the rival teams.

We have no idea where the competition is and what their development curve is. We simply do not have a direct comparison with our opponents, but if we look at what we think we need to be successful, we are in good shape.

Mark Rushbrook concluded.

Red Bull currently has a great power unit performance from Honda. Hence, Ford will have to showcase remarkable results to overcome the Japanese manufacturing giant. With Horner’s investigation now at ease, there are no more rumors of Ford exiting the team. As a result, the 2026 season will be highly exciting due to the in-house power units developed by the two giants.
