Assistant Coach Fired Over 'Behavior in the Workplace'
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bears running back coach David Walker was fired due to his behavior in the workplace on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

The Bears' human resource team was involved in the decision, according to Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns of The Athletic who were first to report the news.

"A source told ESPN that Walker had previously been reprimanded by Bears HR for his workplace behavior, and a second such instance led to his firing," ESPN's Courtney Cronin wrote.

Walker is not the only Bears assistant coach to depart from the organization this season. Former defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned on Sept. 20 in order to "take care of [his] health and family."

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Bears' Human Resources department played a role in the decision that resulted in Walker's departure, so head coach Matt Eberflus had to take over as the team's defensive play caller. However, apparently, that particular occurrence is unrelated to Walker's termination.

Walker was in his second season as part of Eberflus' coaching staff as he was hired in 2022. Before that, he held the role as a running back coach between 2016 and 2018 for the Detroit Lions.

Bears' fans have strong and negative opinions following the news of Walker no longer being part of Chicago's organization.

"What a circus," one fan said. "It really is not fun being a Bears fan."

"No wonder this team can’t win," a second fan wrote. "Eberflus needs to be fired effective 4 weeks ago."

With a 2-6 record and multiple controversies surrounding the team, the 2023 season has not been kind to the Bears.
