Bears Fire Running Backs Coach David Walker
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

In case you didn't know, the Chicago Bears are kind of a mess. From poor negotiations with players like Jaylon Johnson, to defensive coordinators walking away from the team after the season began, everything is a mess at Halas Hall. On Wednesday, there is another chapter to add to the story of the 2023 Bears. According to The Athletic and writer Kevin Fishbain, the Bears have parted ways with running backs coach David Walker. Per the report, Walker's dismissal involved the human resources department.

Per ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Walker's dismissal was directly related to his behavior in the workplace, and this was the second instance of misconduct. Walker was reportedly reprimanded once before for workplace conduct.

With that in mind, the well-documented Alan Williams resignation is deemed an independent event to that of Walker's dismissal. Nonetheless, having the HR department involved in a pair of departures this season has hung a gloomy, dark cloud over the organization this season.

As noted by The Athletic, the Bears do not have an assistant running backs coach, meaning one of the offensive staff members will likely take over the position group. The Bears are now two coaches short of a full staff. Although Phil Snow was hired to help with the defensive prep, head coach Matt Eberflus is still calling the defense on game days.

Aside from the matter being a workplace conduct issue, there is no further detail on what Walker did leading to his dismissal. However, it leaves a large black eye on the organization after Walker becomes the second coach to leave the team within the season.

Head coach Matt Eberflus will reportedly speak to the media on Wednesday morning.
