Broncos waive WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey, claim DL Keondre Coburn from Chiefs

The Denver Broncos released receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey Friday, and claimed nose tackle Keondre Coburn off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Denver waived Humphrey on Oct. 11 before signing him back to their practice squad the following day. He was then elevated to the active roster for the Week 6 “Thursday Night Football” road tilt against the Chiefs.

Humphrey, the fifth-year pro, has hauled in four receptions for 26 yards and a score in six games this season. The 25-year-old spent three seasons with the New Orleans Saints (2019-21) and one with the New England Patriots (2022) before the Broncos signed him to their active roster this past March. In total, Humphrey has suited up in 29 games, coming down with 22 catches for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

Signed by New Orleans as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Humphrey was an accomplished receiver during his time in college at Texas. Humphrey broke out in his junior year to record 86 catches for 1,176 yards and nine touchdowns before making the jump to the NFL. He helped Texas to a 10-4 season and Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia in which he had seven catches for 67 yards.

The Chiefs selected Coburn in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas. He has appeared in one game this season, recording one tackle in the 21-20 Week 1 defeat to the Detroit Lions. The 23-year-old was productive in five seasons with the Longhorns, tallying 94 tackles (51 solo) with 14 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

He gets a fresh start with the Broncos, who at 1-5, sit in last place in the AFC West.
