Chicago Bears Fire Assistant Coach Ahead Of Week 9 Due To HR Incident
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have had turmoil in their coaching staff this season. Weeks after defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned under odd circumstances, another assistant coach has been let go from the team. Running backs coach David Walker was fired by the team yesterday.

Chicago Bears Fire Running Backs Coach David Walker

Reports say that this was a workplace behavior issue. Sources say that the human resources department was involved in the decision to move on from the 53-year-old coach. This was the second instance where HR had to step in which is what led to Walker’s firing. This is not a great look for the franchise to have two coaches leave under suspicious circumstances. There will likely be a lot of questions about the workplace environment in the coming weeks.

Is This A Big Issue?

To have two HR-related incidents in the same year is unusual and not a great look for a franchise that hasn’t been at the pinnacle of stability in the past 20 years. People are questioning this team already as they were buyers at the deadline despite a 2-6 record and a starting quarterback who is still injured. Maybe if Justin Fields comes back the team will improve but it seems unlikely they will have success this season. The real question is if this has any effect on Matt Eberflus as the head coach. We will likely get the answer to that in the coming weeks depending on team performance.

The Chicago Bears will have some questions to answer about David Walker. They will likely try to keep the details under wraps but it is only a matter of time before we get more details about the situation.
