Chris Jericho is in the discussion of one of the pro wrestling GOATS for his longevity in the business. Throughout his career, he has been able to change his gimmick at the right time in various promotions, whether in WCW or WWE, NJPW, and now AEW.

Jericho was the biggest name to join the promotion in 2019 when it launched before they had a television deal. He was also their inaugural AEW World World Heavyweight Champion.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified that Jericho is on his third contract with the promotion.

“It's from the show that we did the other night. But I mean, it was in the Observer. We've corrected it. So I mean, everything is basically correct what we said; the only difference is that I said that Jericho had a three-year contract and a two-year option, and in fact, he did not have a two-year option. What happened was we all thought this was a second contract. It's actually his third. He had signed a contract in 2019. He had it renegotiated in 2020. So, he was on the second contract as opposed to an option. So it all ends up the same. He's still under contract until January 2026 on his new three-year contract that goes into effect in January. So essentially, everything was correct, other than it's just to be completely technically correct. It was not an option that was picked up. It was his second contract.”
