NFL Draft 2024: Baltimore Take Nate Wiggins to Add Playmaker to Secondary
Ken Ruinard / staff / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Baltimore Ravens chose Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the No. 30 overall pick in the first round round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night, adding an immediate playmaker to the secondary.

At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Wiggins is a twitchy cornerback who played at a consistently high level across his three seasons at Clemson.

Last season, Wiggins intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown while breaking up six passes and tying a career-high with 29 total tackles.

Thanks to the ideal length that defensive coordinators covet, and outsized athleticism, Wiggins now has the opportunity to immediately walk into a starting role opposite Marlon Humphrey in the Ravens’ secondary.

Wiggins’ skill set, combined with his fit in the Ravens’ scheme, give him a lofty ceiling.

“He has better physical talent than Devon Witherspoon,” an NFC scout told NFL.com, of Wiggins. “But he doesn’t have that same level of dog in him. That’s probably the biggest difference right now. I think Wiggins is the better prospect, though.”

Through three seasons, Wiggins intercepted three passes, returning two for touchdowns, underscoring his big-play potential, while adding 21 pass breakups, three tackles for loss, one sack, and 60 total tackles.

“Wiggins does a very good job of using his length in coverage,” the Bleacher Report Scouting Department writes of Wiggins. “When in press, he uses his hands well to control and redirect receivers off the line of scrimmage.

“He’s able to seamlessly open and run thanks to his fluid hips, and he has the ability to quickly sink his hips and transition out of breaks. He can be a bit lazy at times with his pad level, causing him to round breaks or be slower to drive on the ball, but when done correctly, he has the footwork to burst out of breaks and drive on receivers.”
