Porter Moser is continuing to build Oklahoma’s basketball program. His third season in Norman just happened to be his best, marking a 20-win season and near-NCAA Tournament appearance. While the committee didn’t put the Sooners in the tournament, they were incredibly close and now have some ground to build on moving forward.

Change is needed for the Sooners, who went 4-12 in Quad 1 games this past season, but they took care of business in Quad 2, 3 and 4 games. Another offseason of positive roster changes with the transfer portal is needed, and here are a few guys that could help the Sooners out next season.

Brandon Garrison, Oklahoma State

The former McDonald’s All-American out of Oklahoma and four-star recruit spent his freshman season in Stillwater. While a cross-Bedlam transfer wouldn’t bode well on social media, it’s become a more common theme as of recent history. Furthermore, the Sooners aren’t even playing Oklahoma State in the near future with the Sooners moving onto the SEC.

Garrison started 29 of his 32 games played with Oklahoma State, securing his starting spot early in the season. He averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game in an average of 22.7 minutes per game over the course of his lone season. He would address a big need of the Sooners at the center position, a place where Oklahoma lacked depth last season.

JP Pegues, Furman

The Furman transfer could add depth at another position of need for Oklahoma next season. Adding Garrison would fill any big void, but the Sooners could be in trouble in the front court if they don’t make any additions. Dayton Forsythe, a 2024 signee, will add guard depth, but the freshman might not be ready to start at the next level immediately. Pegues adds some comfortability to the front court after Rivaldo Soares’ Oklahoma career has come to an end.

The 6-foot-1 transfer point guard averaged 18.4 points and 4.8 assists per game a season ago in 30 starts. Shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc on the season, Pegues would be an incredible addition alongside Javian McCollum to give Oklahoma a strong back court heading into SEC play. It’s been a proven formula that having strong play on the perimeter can lead to postseason success. According to OU Insider’s Brody Lusk, the Sooners have been in contact with Pegues.

Gibson Jimerson, Saint Louis

Jimerson is another player the Sooners have reportedly reached out to. The 6-foot-5 guard would be a front court player with size, giving Oklahoma another prospect to bolster guard depth with. He’s entering his final season of college basketball, and Oklahoma could be an incredible fit as he’s looking to finish off a solid career.

Jimerson is a reliable shooter, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc over the course of his career, which has seen him average 13.8 points per game. The Saint Louis transfer could be the perfect addition alongside McCollum, proving spacing and scoring from the perimeter, something Oklahoma lacked plenty this past season.
