The Oregon State Beavers are in a precarious position right now. Not only have they lost their head coach to another program, but the conference they are in is dissolving leaving them and Washington State in no-man’s land. Because of this, the program is likely to see many players enter the transfer portal. Talented true freshman cornerback Jermod McCoy has reportedly entered the transfer portal.

McCoy had a solid freshman season for the Beavers. He notched 16 tackles to go along with seven pass deflections and two interceptions. For a true freshman to come in and look this comfortable on the field is a positive for whatever team picks him up. It isn’t surprising to see promising players enter the portal. McCoy wants to be playing in a premier conference and the recent agreement with the Mountain West Conference wasn’t enough to keep players around.
2024 might be a little rough but I expect the Oregon State AD to be furiously trying to find a permanent home. No doubt that at some point, the Beavers become an enticing program to add to a conference. Until then, the new head coach might have a difficult time convincing players to come to the program. In this new college football landscape, getting players is one thing, and keeping them is another. While Oregon State could get players to come, they might ultimately leave after any success.
It is going to be tough sledding for the program moving forward. It will be interesting to see where this program ends up in a couple of years.
