OSU Basketball Center Listed As Top Transfer in College Basketball

The college basketball transfer portal is fully underway, though the timing still feels a bit off. The NCAA Tournament is just now set to begin, the NIT has yet to happen, and players still have meaningful basketball left. For the Oklahoma State Cowboys, though, the basketball season is over. They've seen two players, Javon Small and Brandon Garrison, enter the transfer portal. 

Both of the transfers hurt, but it makes sense. The Cowboys posted a 12-20 record as Mike Boynton was relieved from his head coaching duties. The program needs a fresh look, and these players can find a short-term solution to play competitive basketball in a more sure opportunity.

For Garrison, there is expected to be plenty of interest in the transfer portal. He held offers from programs like Kansas and Oklahoma, among others, who will have a good chance to land the big man in the portal.

According to On3, Garrison is the top-ranked transfer in college basketball. He was a four-star recruit before joining Oklahoma State in Stillwater, so it's no surprise he's one of the highest-ranked recruits.

In his one season with the Cowboys, Garrison averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in 32 contests. He started in 29 of those games, too. His impact is going to be missed in Stillwater as the freshman has plenty of potential as he's going to continue developing at the college level.

Whatever coach the Cowboys decided to move forward with for a new era of Oklahoma State basketball, they're going to be facing a tall task. As things stand now, there are six scholarships to offer, assuming more players don't hit the portal. It wouldn't be surprising to see Eric Dailey and Quion Williams also test the transfer portal, and the new Cowboys head coach will have to try and retain the young talents.
