According to the Associated Press, former USA Gymnastics doctor and convicted child molester Larry Nassar was recently stabbed inside the prison he’s being held in.

Here was the AP’s report, which they broke on Monday morning:

“Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar, who was convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida.

“Two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press the attack happened Sunday at United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida. The people said he was in stable condition Monday. One of the people said he had been stabbed in the back and in the chest.”

In 2017, Nassar was convicted and sent to prison for a 60-year sentence over child pornography charges. Then, in 2018, he pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct and received another sentence that makes his total prison time well over 100 years, effectively keeping him in prison for the rest of his life.

This isn’t the first time Nassar has been involved in some sort of altercation. Back when he was first locked up, other inmates tried to harm him.

Just hours after arriving at the U.S. penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona back when he was initially charged, Nassar was physically assaulted and injured that May not long after being thrown into the prison’s general population.

Now, there’s been a stabbing incident involving him and at least one other inmate.

More on Nassar

Nassar’s prominence as a doctor came in large part for his work with the USA Gymnastics program. He was appointed national medical coordinator for the program back in 1996, a couple of years after the earliest allegations of his misconduct as one woman claimed to have been a victim of his in 1994.

A year later, Nassar also began working at Michigan State as a professor and a team physician for their gymnastics program. Nassar remained apart of USA and Michigan State gymnastics for long time, and in the early 2000s, he also began to abuse more of his athletes.

In 2014, he was accused of sexual assault by a Michigan State graduate but was ultimately cleared of any concerns. In early August of 2016, a story by the Indianapolis Star highlighted some problems with how USA Gymnastics has handled sexual abuse complaints — and less than a month after that story, Nassar was again accused of sexual misconduct, which ultimately led to a number of women coming forward.

Then, in 2017, he was first convicted and sent to prison.
