Report: Hischier to Practice with Devils on Monday
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils are banged up. They’ve got a number of players dealing with injuries that has management contemplating a recall or two from the Utica Comets. That includes captain Nico Hischier who was injured in Friday night’s contest against the New York Islanders. However, a report on Saturday night indicates that Hischier is going to practice with the Devils on Monday.

According to Sportsnet’s Insider Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada, “Nico Hischier was hurt the other night in the game for the Devils against the Islanders. But, the news appears good. It looks like he’s going to practice with the Devils on Monday.”

It’s indeed good news for the Devils who were already without Erik Haula and Tomas Nosek in the 5-4 overtime victory on Long Island.

Devils head coach Lindy Ruff was unsure of Hischier’s status as of Saturday morning. However, it appears as the day progressed, Hischier’s status improved. Additionally, no one was recalled from the Utica Comets. Certainly, that was a positive indicator of Hischier’s health status.

It’s unclear what injured Hischier against the Islanders. The Devils captain took a big hit from Cal Clutterbuck early in the first period of the game. However, he remained in the game through the second period. Unfortunately for New Jersey, Ryan Pulock laid another big check on Hischier in the second period.

Ruff disclosed after the game that Hischier was dealing with an upper-body injury. Fortunately for New Jersey, it appears they just might have avoided a key injury.
