The Washington State Cougars are in a state of transition as a program. With the Pac-12 dissolving, the Cougars are left trying to figure out how to sustain the program for 2024 and beyond. Because of the volatility, many players are deciding to leave the program via the transfer portal. Wide receiver Kyle Williams announced that he is entering the transfer portal.

Washington State WR Kyle Williams Enters Transfer Portal

Williams spent one year with the Cougars after transferring from UNLV. He posted 61 catches for 843 yards and six touchdowns in his one season. He joins quarterback Cam Ward in the transfer portal. Williams was a three-year starter at UNLV and was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2020. Williams immediately becomes one of the top weapons in the transfer portal.

2024 Outlook

The Cougars reached a deal with the Mountain West Conference to play some games in 2024. The Apple Cup game against in-state rival Washington will continue but otherwise, it will be an all-new slate of opponents. The most high-profile matchups will be against San Diego State and Boise State. Everything beyond next year is very murky for the program. They will likely try and find a way into a larger conference but that is a complex process.

What is the future of Washington State in terms of football? Conference realignment has left them out to dry and they will have to get creative to build the program back up.
