Wisconsin Basketball Transfer Announces Commitment to Big East Program

“I’m HALL in. Excited to put my head down and work. I’m ready to move on from my past mistakes, and I am excited to get back to playing the game I love,” Yalden wrote in a social media post.

The former Badger will have all four seasons of eligibility remaining with the Pirates. 

Wisconsin Basketball Transfer Gus Yalden Lands at Seton Hall

Yalden, nicknamed “Gus Bus,” became a fan favorite after he committed to Wisconsin in May 2022. The former four-star recruit was ranked the nation’s No. 128 player and the No. 17 center in the 2023 cycle. With John Blackwell and Nolan Winter also among the signees, expectations were high for the Badgers’ class of 2023. Blackwell came alive for UW, winning Big Ten Freshman of the Week four times, while Winter showed some growth throughout the year. However, Yalden faced several bumps in his short-lived Badgers career. 

Yalden was ticketed for underage drinking in September and was also issued a verbal warning for carrying a fake ID. Then, just over a week before the 2023-24 season tipped off in November, it was announced that the true freshman would take a leave of absence from the Wisconsin basketball team. Yalden cited “personal reasons” for his absence, but shortly after the announcement, charges were filed against him for marijuana possession. The case was later dismissed in February. 

Yalden never appeared in a game during his time with the Badgers. It looked like he would see his first game action in the final minutes of a non-conference game in December when the true freshman went up to the scorer’s table, but he walked back to the bench shortly after.

Whispers of Yalden’s intentions to transfer began to pop up near the end of the regular season, and after he didn’t travel with the Wisconsin basketball team to its NCAA Tournament matchup vs. James Madison, the writing was on the wall. 

A change of scenery will allow Yalden to move on from his turbulent time in Madison and potentially contribute to a Seton Hall team that is coming off of an NIT Championship win.
