The first round of the 2012 Masters turned out to be an up and down day for some of the big stars of the PGA Tour. The tour’s biggest star, Tiger Woods, had to deal with a lot of trouble Thursday as he posted an even round 72. If not for a couple of big saves with his putter, Woods would have been at least 2-over par. In his own words Woods said, ” [I] didn’t hit it very good at all.” 5 strokes pack from Thursday’s leader, Lee Westwood, Woods needs to find his stroke on Friday if he wants a chance of getting back in this tournament. Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson had similar type of rounds with McIlroy starting out with a double bogie, but being able to finish at 1-under. Mickelson also had an up and down round with 4 bogies and 1 triple bogie. He added 5 birdies to his round to finish at 2-over for the day.

Westwood started out on fire birdieing 5 holes on the front 9 to shoot a 4-under 32. He added two birdies on the back to go with one bogie and finished with a 5-under 67. Westwood is the #3 ranked player in the world and is looking for his first win at a major. He always seems to be around the leaderboard late in the tournament, but hasn’t be able to grab any wins. We’ll see if he can continue his great start to the tournament and grab his first major.
