Jeff Knox, an Augusta National member, shot a 2-under 70 during the third round of the Masters on Saturday, beating former world No. 1 Rory McIlroy’s score by one stroke. Knox served as a non-competing marker with McIlroy because an odd number of players made the cut. “Jeff is a great player,” McIlroy said. “He beat me by one. So I thought he was going to be nice and 3‑putt the last and we would have a halve, but he beat me by one. … He obviously knows this place so well and gets it round. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone putt the greens as well as he does around here. “He was really impressive. I was thinking of maybe getting him to read a few of my putts out there. He played really well and he couldn’t have been more helpful. He was really nice all the way around.” McIlroy birdied three of the final four holes to finish the round at 71, while Knox bogeyed No. 18 for the 70. “I thought he was going to be nice and three-putt the last and we would have a half, but he beat me by one,” McIlroy said. Knox, 51, holds the member course record at Augusta National with a 61. “It would have been different, had it been someone that wasn’t up to Jeff’s caliber,” McIlroy said. “But he played just like he should be playing in the Masters.” The post Augusta member outplays Rory McIlroy at the Masters appeared first on Sports Glory.
