Tap In Golf favorite Graeme McDowell won the RBC Heritage this past weekend, taking down Webb Simpson in a playoff. If you are asking yourself, why do we love Graeme, take a look at this. That’s right, he was ordering drinks while he was preparing to win a golf tournament. Want another reason? We actually share a swing coach. Kinda. Back in the day, John O’Leary helped Graeme to perfect his swing. Now he is the teaching pro at my home golf course. Is he putting me on the same career trajectory? Absolutely not. It is becoming painfully obvious that I do not possess the skill set to be a PGA Tour pro. But this isn’t about me. It’s about the guy that added a plaid jacket to his wardrobe. Graeme plays the game like I would like to. He has a good time. He keeps his cool. He looks like a fun guy to have post round beers with. Oh, and have I mentioned, he’s pretty good? That’s the kind of guy us average golfers like to have in their weekend foursome. Not to get all philosophical here, but that’s what makes Graeme such a popular draw on the tour. Yeah, he’s really good, but he seems like one of the guys. I hope this jump starts Graeme’s season. Since his US Open win in 2010, he’s just kind of been, uh, around. You would see his name on leaderboards now and again. But then he would have a clunker. Just check the 2013 Master’s. A missed cut was not what most of us were expecting from the Northern Irishman. So it was good to see him bounce back, buy drinks for everyone at the bar, and add some hardware to his trophy case. Most importantly, he gave me an excuse to drink a few pints of Guinness. Cheers Graeme!
