Tiger Woods has had a rough weekend at Medinah. Tiger has never been a great Ryder Cup player and this really isn’t new, but again like every other bad finish this year it seems bigger.
Woods has lost 3 points in 4 of his 6 Ryder Cup appearances. He and Steve Stricker were 0-3 through the first 2 days with only the individual matches left. Tiger actually played really well in 2 of 3 matches. In the afternoon Friday match against Lee Westwood and Nick Colsaerts, Tiger was -5 on the back but Colsaerts was -10 by himself on the round and the Americans lost 1 DN. After the bad start couldn’t Davis Love see Stricker, a captains pick, just didn’t have it? Tiger’s fierce finish came up short but it showed he just needed a little help. So, instead of making a change Love “rested” Woods. Again in the Saturday afternoon pairings Woods/Stricker lost 1 DN to Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald and once again Woods back side just needed a little help from his partner.
Did Davis Love III sabotage Woods? Once he saw that Stricker wasn’t going to help did he leave him with Tiger to embarrass him? The Americans had a commanding lead at that point and this point wouldn’t kill his team’s chances. Love had a really good pro career with 20 PGA Tour wins including 1 major but he was always overshadowed. He ranked in the Top 10 of the World Rankings for 450 weeks but never higher than 3rd. Davis Love spent his entire career being really good, but never the best. He was in the shadows of players such as Greg Norman, Curtis Strange, Vijay Singh, and Nick Faldo. By the way, Tiger Woods first PGA Tour victory? 1996 Las Vegas Invitational…runner up? Davis Love III! Love, I am on to you and your sneaky little act of sabotage.
Woods sat out a session for the first time in his Ryder Cup career. In a season full of let down, this may have been the saddest of them all for Woods and his fans. He has a chance at redemption as the last single out on the course today at 1:03pm against Francisco Molinari.

What is the Ryder Cup? Well, in layman’s terms, the Ryder Cup is a biennial golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States.
