DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - NOVEMBER 16: Ernie Els of South Africa tees off at the 9th hole using a new Callaway FTiz driver during the SAP day at the Els Culb on November 16, 2009 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Photo by David Cannon/Getty Images)
Adam Scott led for most of the final round on Sunday but collapsed with four bogeys in his last four holes as Ernie Els rallied back to finish with a 68-under-par-70 on the day and 7 under overall to win the British Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. Els won his second Open Championship after birding the 18th hole to finish at 7 under.  He went into the clubhouse to wait while Scott bogyed the 17th hole and headed into number 18 tied.     Scott needed a par to head to a playoff or a birdie to win.  After escaping a fairway bunker on the 18th hole and hitting a brilliant iron onto the green, Scott needed to make his putt to tie Els.  But it just wasn't meant to be as the ball rolled to his left and past the cup. Els has now won four major championships.  Tiger Woods finished tied for third with and overall score of 3 under.  Woods along with the rest of the field struggled on Sunday.  He took a triple bogey on No. 6 after hitting a bunker shot sitting down.
