SAN FRANCISCO - OCTOBER 08: International Team Captain Greg Norman watches the play during the Day One Foursome Matches of The Presidents Cup at Harding Park Golf Course on October 8, 2009 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Scott Halleran/Getty Images)
There were few golfers who enjoyed the kind of success in the late 1980s and early 1990s as Australian Greg Norman. Norman was without question one of the best golfers of that era as evidenced by his 20 PGA Tour titles, two major championships, and plethora of European and Australian Tour wins.In a recent piece for Golf.com, Norman believes he could compete and win against any of today's best players in a hypothetical match, including Tiger Woods.A lot of people ask how I’d stack up against today’s players if I had use of modern equipment. Listen, it’s not about the gear. Winning is about what’s in your heart and in your head. Equipment dictates how to play the game in an era, but the physical and mental skills are the same. And I had them. I never feared anything or anyone on the course, and I wasn’t afraid to fail. So I think I’d do pretty well against Snead, Hogan, Tiger and Phil — whoever. Tiger’s a tough guy, but I was a tough guy on the course, too. I probably would have beat him.Hey, I for one believe The Shark is spot on. Via For the Win
