There are few, if any golf cliches that are more tried and true than “play as it lies.” PGA Tour golfer Matt Every became the latest to prove that playing to that adage cane sometimes work out.
Every turned in a shot of the year candidate on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. His tee shot found some trouble on the par-4 third hole, and that left Every with an interesting to decision to make. The ball had come to rest on the “shores” of a pond on the course, and he decided to play it as it lie.
Every left his shoes on and got a little dirty as he decided to take a hack at the ball that was still somewhat playable. That turned out to be a very good decision. He ended up holing out the 124-yard shot for eagle.
See the gutsy play in the video below (there may or may not be some inaudible swearing at some point during the video).
Golf clap to The Big Lead for this one.
