The Sergio Garcia camp obviously has entered full damage control now in light of the perceptively racist comments the Spanish golfer made about serving fried chicken to Tiger Woods should the two dine together during the U.S. Open next month.

A statement previously had been released by Garcia in which he apologized for his fried chicken remarks. Tiger responded on Wednesday morning via Twitter by condemning Garcia’s comments, but the firestorm was seemingly set to burn out of control unless Sergio publicly and personally issued a formal apology. So, the decision was made for Garcia to appear at a press conference on Wednesday morning, during which Garcia expressed profound regret for his insensitive and regrettable comments, saying they were "stupid and out of place."

Some highlights from Sergio's statements:

■ On how he felt after making the ill-fated "joke": "As soon as I left the dinner, I started getting a sick feeling in my body. I didn't really sleep at all last night. I felt like my heart was going to come out of my body. I had this sick feeling all day."

■ On how his "fried chicken" commentary was not racially motivated: "It wasn't meant that way. I was caught off-guard by what seemed to be a funny question and tried to give a funny answer that came off totally wrong. I want to make sure that everybody knows that I'm very, very sorry. I can't apologize enough times."

■ On his intent to apologize in person to Tiger Woods: "I'm terribly sorry about what happened, and I'm sure we’ll be able to talk soon and I'll apologize to (Woods), face to face."

Garcia certainly sounded sincere during the presser. Hopefully, he meant it and everybody can move on and again focus on what happens on the course instead of the words that are said off of it.

  • IT'S THE SAME OLD RACIST GARBAGE ALL OVER AGAIN. Obviously Garcia lacks the skill to play the game . But he also lacks class and quality of character. A born loser.
  • What a joke regarding Sergio. Granted, he is a bit of a hotheaded Spaniard, much like Seve Ballesteros, one of the greatest golfers ever. Sergio will never be another Seve, but to say that he lacks the skill to play the game is LUDICRIOUS!!!
  • He is another tragic figure whose skill at a sport has given him a stage far greater than his mental capacity.
  • Sergio's brain can't catch up with his tongue....
  • Yo! Stop the presses! Since when did food become racist? Or the person saying it. Seriously? We are talking about FOOD. Can we plaaaaleeez stop with all the kneel bending to kiss The Cheetah's ring or would that be his as!@#$%^&s? Sergio was asked a question, he gave a "tongue in cheek" rhetorical reply, for which I see NO problem with. What would have happened if Sergio said, "ham & cabbage" or "eggs & grits"? Saying "fried chicken" doesn't make it a racist statement! Anymore than saying, a "happy meal" from Micky's D's! Oh, I get it....you all think because the Cheetah is 1/2 black, that "fried chicken" is a racist comment! Geez, I'm sure glad Sergio didn't say "rommen noodles" or "shrimp fried rice." Give it a break, the tour, the media, earth's populace need to STOP treating this spoiled, entitled, cheating, Stanford brat like he isn't a mere mortal. Ernest "tiger" Woods has been a pampered prince since his 2yr old debut on the Mike Douglas show. This chump expects people to kneel down & kiss his tour card. For once, it's nice to see someone who would like to smack the spit out of tiger's mouth. Sergio may not be #1 in the world, but,for a brief Sawgrass moment, right up to the 71st hole, Garcia gave all of us a peak into his can of WHOOPAS@#$%^&*S he had with Tiger's name on it! ')
  • Seriously......Take a f*****g look at McDonalds/Wendy's/Burger King. Every commercial going has a black family in it eating chicken. To be politically correct for the United States you must have black....OOOPS...colored.....OOOPS, African Americans in commercials. Get A grip people, so he said serve chicken big deal, wash it down with some watermelon and Koolaid when your done.

Report: Things got 'ugly' in Bears' locker room after loss

Following an extremely frustrating loss to the Miami Dolphins, several Chicago Bears players removed from the locker room due to it getting too heated. You saw Brandon Marshall briefly lose his temper on the field, but a lot of people get annoyed with Cortland Finnegan. Did it carry into the locker room? In a surprise to nobody, I’m told it was Marshall in the middle of the postgame...

The St. Louis Rams were all sorts of crafty on Sunday afternoon. Brett Favre’s first NFL pass came with the Atlanta Falcons in 1991, and it resulted in a interception return for a touchdown. He was just a wide-eyed 21-year-old rookie who had started his college career during the Ronald Reagan Administration. After a Hall of Fame caliber 20-year NFL career, Favre called it quits as the league’s all-time leader in touchdown passes back in 2010...
