Phil Mickelson has been open about his gambling addiction in the past, and the six-time major champion went into even more detail about it in a lengthy social media post on Monday.
Mickelson opened up on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, about the way his gambling addiction has impacted his relationships with those close to him. The 53-year-old said his family’s “financial security has never been threatened” but that the betting became an issue because he was “so distracted I wasn’t able to be present with the ones I love and caused a lot of harm.”
Mickelson also said he will not be gambling at all this NFL season.

Mickelson said he has been receiving professional help for his gambling addiction for years. He spoke out about something similar after a book that was recently published by famous sports bettor Billy Walters made an insane claim about how much Mickelson has wagered over the years.
Walters also stated that Mickelson tried to bet on a Ryder Cup that Phil was playing in. Rory McIlroy recently criticized Mickelson over that allegation.
