Rory McIlroy did not have a very good U.S. Open. The former U.S. Open (2011) and PGA Championship (2012) winner finished at +14 for the tournament and was +6 during the final round on Sunday at Merion Golf Club.
McIlroy’s frustrations got the best of him on the 11th hole when he bent one of his new Nike clubs after hitting his approach shot into the water. He finished the hole with a quadruple-bogey 8. Ouch.
The former No. 1 player in the world hasn’t scored a PGA Tour victory since the BMW Championship on Sep. 9 of last year, so his frustrations have been boiling up for a while.

Rory McIlroy has not been playing well since signing his mega-deal with Nike. On #11 on Sunday at the US Open he fired his drive into Cobbs creek. McIlroy was miserable at Merion and he took out his frustrations on his club on No. 11 on Sunday. His first tee shot plopped in the water. He took a drop, then sent another ball into the same creek.

I could never seriously take up golf. The game would be so frustrating to me that I would break half of my clubs and throw the rest in a tree or water hazard. To keep from doing that I would have to have a few beers while playing in order to keep me good and relaxed.
But then I'd probably run a cart into a lake like this guy.
So when Rory McIlroy took his frustrations out...
Rory McIlroy's club had no chance after that water shot on the final day of the U.S. Open. McIlroy decided it'd be better to bend it in half than use it the rest of the day.

Come December, it will be a very sad state of affairs if the biggest storyline in the game from the season is that Tiger won eight times but didn't win a major. And that Rory McIlroy got super...
With the tease of an ace on each tee shot, golfers count down to the 13th hole.
It's where the shortest hole at Merion Golf Club waits.
And at the U.S. Open, that makes 13 the life of the 18-hole party, the off-campus bash down the block from the staid library.
Playing in his second U.S. Open, unheralded Scott Langley and Morgan Hoffmann noticed they were turning into Tiger...
