If it is not good enough to be Dustin Johnson the pro golfer, reaping the built-in benefits of being one of the biggest hitters on the PGA Tour, a blurb in a report filed by Sports Illustrated scribe Alan Shupnick from the wind-swept Hyundai Tournament of Champions currently being held in Kapula, Hawaii, indicates that the six-time PGA Tour winner is having a successful go of it off the course as well. According to Shupnick, Johnson traveled to Hawaii for the tournament far earlier than is the norm, affording him the opportunity to spend more time with his “new squeeze,” Twitter temptress and Instagram image ingenue, Paulina Gretzky. Well, maybe “ingenue” isn’t the best way to describe some of her racier uploads to Instagram (SoB’s archives include a sampling of some of the better photos) but the alliteration was far too tempting. Via Golf.com: If the laid-back Johnson looked strangely comfortable on the Plantation Course it comes from the extra time he’s spent here. Needing to break in new irons and a new driver, Johnson arrived early and played six practice rounds. (That also allowed him to spend some quality time with his new squeeze Paulina Gretzky.) Since writers for Sports Illustrated typically do not engage in gossipy, celebro-tainment journalism, it is reasonable to assume that Shupnick’s reporting is on the up and up here and he is not spreading rumors solely on the basis of conjecture and innuendo. Not only that, Gretzky uploaded the below photo to her Instagram account on Saturday (by way of Eye on Golf), which by all appearances at least places her within close proximity of her supposed beau: Rumors were that Gretzky was dating NHLer Jarret Stoll, but the daughter of hockey royalty Wayne Gretzky quelled any speculation of a relationship between the two during a recent interview.
