Shane Lowry snaps iron over his neck during disappointing round at The Open

Shane Lowry is going to be shopping for a new iron. A frustrating week at the Open Championship got the best of the golfer, who snapped a club in half over his neck during the tournament.

Lowry found himself in decent shape following the first round at the Open Championship on Thursday, shooting a 1-over-par 72 to start the major. But things went off the rails on Friday.

The 2019 champion of the event shot a 77 on Friday, placing him at +7 for the tournament and missing the weekend cut. Lowry’s round got so frustrating that, at one point, he snapped a club over his neck.

When you’re having a bad round, you have to take it out on something, right? That poor club should have hit a better shot. Maybe then it would still be intact.

Lowry owns seven career victories, most of those coming on the European Tour. His top moment came in 2019, when he won the Open Championship, defeating Tommy Fleetwood by six strokes.

Unfortunately for Lowry, he’ll have to wait another year for another chance to add a second Open Championship to his resume. And we already know that at least one of his irons won’t be making the trip to next year’s tournament.

Cameras capture Jon Rahm’s frustration at Open Championship

Lowry wasn’t the only one who had his frustrations captured by cameras during the Open Championship this week. Jon Rahm’s very loud F-bomb also got picked up during the tournament.

On Thursday, Rahm missed a short par putt on the 10th hole. After seeing the ball miss the hole, the two-time major winner shouted — quite loudly — “F***!” You better believe Peacock’s microphones picked that up.

That’s the kind of moment every golfer can relate to, right? Perhaps the best part was the delayed apology from the commentator after Rahm’s outburst.

Although he was pretty frustrated on Thursday, Rahm’s tournament wasn’t nearly as bad as Lowry’s. Rahm snuck into the weekend cut by shooting a +2 through the first two rounds. He carded a 3-over-par 74 on the opening day before firing a -1 in the second round.

He might need a little bit of help to add the Open Championship to his list of accomplishments, but at least he made the weekend cut. And in this tournament, which has seen some unbelievable moments, sometimes just making the cut is all you need to find your way into contention on Sunday.
