World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler falls one stroke short of 3rd consecutive PGA Tour win

After missing the Valspar Championship last week, Scheffler was back on the greens. For most of the time during the final round, another victory for the American golfer seemed to be on the cards.

However, missed putts from 11 and 5 feet at the final two holes saw him finish second as he missed the chance to force a playoff with Jaeger. After the round he would admit to be a bit disappointed for coming up short.

I put up a good fight, felt like I had some weird breaks this week. That's kind of the thing, it's tough to describe, but obviously, I'm a bit disappointed. Scottie Scheffler said in a press conference.

Despite this setback, Scheffler claimed it was “another good week” from him as he got the chance to battle it out for the top prize. With the Masters at the Augusta National at the horizon, he is one of the golfer that many will lookout for.

Stephan Jaeger amazed to ‘slay the dragon’ Scottie Scheffler at Houston Open

As Scottie Scheffler regretted his missed putts, Stephan Jaeger was unable to control his emotions. The German International claimed his first PGA Tour win of his career as he edged out Scheffler and others for the top spot. In the press conference after the event, Jaeger would claim be was amazed to ‘slay the dragon‘

Since the American took over the World No.1 spot, he has looked to be unbeatable on some occassions. So to beat him for his maiden title was always going to be special for Jaeger.

It feels amazing...I couldn't have…dreamed up a better week to do it. Obviously, playing Scottie last couple days, he's been on a tear. So to kind of slay the dragon a little bit this week was amazing. Stephan Jaeger said.

This victory also makes him the fifth first time winner on the tour this season so far after Nick Dunlap , Matthieu Pavon, Jake Knapp and Austin Eckroat. Apart from taking $1.6 million from the prize pool, this triumph of Jaeger also booked his place in the field for the 2024 Masters tournament.
