World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler: LIV Golf players suing PGA Tour 'definitely a bit frustrating'

The PGA Tour recently filed a motion in federal court to keep three suspended LIV Golf players (Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford) from competing in the upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs. This came after the trio -- along with eight other members of LIV Golf including Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau -- filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour in federal court last week.

As ESPN's Mark Schlabach writes, U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman is scheduled to hear arguments in California on Tuesday from attorneys representing Gooch, Jones and Swafford, as well as the PGA Tour. According to Schlabach, she "may decide" Tuesday whether to grant a temporary restraining order that would allow the trio of players to take part in the FedEx Cup playoffs, which begins with the FedEx St. St. Jude Championship on Thursday.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler -- who competes on the PGA Tour -- spoke about the issue, calling the situation "frustrating."

"I'm definitely curious to see what's going to happen," Scheffler said, per Schlabach. "It's one of those deals where those guys kind of made their decision to go join another tour and they broke the rules and regulations of our tour and now they're trying to sue us, which is definitely a bit frustrating. I heard that was going to happen and I know some guys aren't surprised to see it, but I definitely am surprised to see some guys now suing us."

Scheffler earned his first major title at the Masters in April and is the only player who has won four times on tour this season.

"If they win, come out here and play, I mean, that's something that's up to the courts," he said. "I can't control what's going to happen in a court case. Definitely interested, but at the end of the day it has no effect on my preparation for the week."

The 26-year-old reiterated his commitment to the PGA Tour, saying that it's "the best place to play," "my dream was to play on the PGA Tour" and "my dream was never to maximize my financial benefits."
