Odds for Mage, other Kentucky Derby competitors at the Preakness Stakes

With the Kentucky Derby squarely in the rearview mirror, the spotlight turns to Pimlico Race Course, where the 2023 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday. The field for the second leg of the Triple Crown is notably shorter and, of course, contains a few returning competitors from the Run for the Roses.

Just like with the Derby, the Preakness is a big draw for racing fans looking to put a little money on some horses.

So, just where does the betting value lie for the horses competing in the Run for the Black-Eyed Susans?

Kentucky Derby winner Mage is of course the current favorite at 3-1 odds, the Lines reported via FanDuel. The colt was a 15-1 shot to win the Derby after finishing first in just four starts but clearly has everyone's attention ahead of race day at Pimlico.

Before you empty out your wallet for Mage, there is another familiar competitor racing for the middle jewel of the Triple Crown. Disarm, who placed fourth at Churchill Downs, is listed at 12-1 odds and looking to snag his first win of the season on Saturday. The 3-year-old colt was narrowly beaten by Angel of Empire for third place at the Derby but won't have that same competition again with Angel of Empire not in the Preakness field.

Mage and Disarm will miss out on competing against some other familiar horses this weekend as well. Derby participant Confidence Game, who was originally listed at 12-1 odds via the Lines, was scratched from the field on Monday because of a sore shoulder.

Saturday was also thought to be a rematch between Mage and Forte after the latter was scratched from the Kentucky Derby field shortly before the race, but Forte, who was the Derby favorite up until that point, is not eligible to race at the Preakness because of a positive drug test.
