Will Power has exorcised his oval demons tonight with a dominating win in the MavTV 500 tonight. Power had a lone win in the Texas Twin 275k in 2011, but never got it completely done at the end of the day to collect that win. Tonight, Power dominated the middle stages of the race and when he was up front, he was uncatchable and was the only car that could pull away from the pack. He had to hold to hang on for 1 final restart on lap 243, but he was able to pull away from Ed Carpenter and Tony Kanaan to a healthy margin of 1.4883 seconds at the checkered flag. “It’s the most satisfying win of my life,” said a jubilant Power. “That is the most satisfying thing I have ever done.  And I wanted to do it so badly all year.  I knew in the early ovals, I just was kind of conservative because I just wanted to finish every lap. And this time I’m going for it.” Finishing 2nd was last year’s MavTV 500 winner Ed Carpenter, who came in for 4 fresh tires on lap 234, a gamble which paid off as we wa...

Power proves he can win on IndyCar ovals

Sometime during the offseason, Will Power read a quote from fellow driver Ed Carpenter that he tucked away in the back of his mind and used as an incentive to prove all of his doubters wrong. Power had gone into last year's season finale at Auto Club Speedway as the IndyCar points leader, his third chance in three years to win his first series title. Instead, he crashed early...

Power’s lap is the fastest official lap at Auto Club Speedway since 2003. “Drove out the pits today, car was pretty quick in qualifying trim,” said Power. “I thought we’d have a pretty good shot.” In his first start since an abysmal Detroit...

Dixon comeback nets third title

Scott Dixon won his first championship at 23, too young to appreciate what he'd accomplished in his first full season with Chip Ganassi Racing and their first year competing in the IndyCar Series. The next title five seasons later capped one of those years you only dream about: Dixon won six races, the Indianapolis 500, married his wife, Emma, and topped it all off with his...

IndyCar: Penske Trio Powers to Front Row Sweep in Fontana

Fontana, CA- It’s been a perfect weekend thus far for the entire Team Penske organization. They needed some help as Helio Castroneves entered the season finale in Fontana 25 points behind Scott Dixon for the championship lead. After a 90 minute practice session and qualifying for tomorrow’s MAVTV 500, it’s safe to say Penske is the team to beat. Will Power, who was quickest...

Team Penske fast in opening practice for MavTV 500

Team Penske has laid down the law at the track he built during opening practice for Saturday’s MavTV 500. Will Power set the fastest lap of the day at 32.5955 (220.889 mph), the only car the cross the 220 mph margin and sets the fastest lap turned at Auto Club Speedway since 2003. Teammates AJ Allmendinger and Helio Castroneves were 4th and 5th respectively making it 3 out of the...

Dixon edges Castroneves IndyCar title

Scott Dixon became the latest driver to deny Roger Penske an IndyCar championship, wrapping up his third title Saturday night in a race of attrition at Auto Club Speedway. Will Power won the season finale -- a year after he crashed in this race to blow his own title chances -- to salvage the night for Penske Racing. But it was Dixon and Chip Ganassi celebrating on the big stage...

Fontana preview

With a championship on the line, the battle between Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves is going to go down to the wire but as far as the race goes, this is going to be one for the money. Auto Club Speedway has a great open wheel on track product, and last years return did not disappoint. With Power taking the pole, that makes it one less point the Castroneves could have earned to...
