Found October 20, 2008 on Twins Territory:

Since all is quiet, and we haven’t done so yet, here are some of the team leaders from the ‘08 season on both the mound and at the plate.

Hitting Leaders: Games - Justin Morneau (163) Hits - Justin Morneau (187) Runs - Joe Mauer (98) Doubles - Justin Morneau (47) Triples - Denard Span and Carlos Gomez (7) Homeruns - Justin Morneau (23) Runs Batted In - Justin Morneau (129) Steals - Carlos Gomez (33) Average - Joe Mauer (.328) m Pitching Leaders: Game Started - Nick Blackburn (33) Wins - Kevin Slowey and Glen Perkins (12) Saves - Joe Nathan (39) Complete Games - Kevin Slowey (3) Shutouts - Kevin Slowey (2) Innings - Nick Blackburn (193.1) Strikeouts - Scott Baker (141) ERA - Joe Nathan (1.33)

From these numbers, there are a few interesting notes:

** The team had just two shutouts, both of which were thrown by Kevin Slowey. Slowey also threw three of the team’s five complete games.

** The lowest ERA was actually Jose Mijares (0.87), but because he was only with the team for a month, he didn’t throw enough innings.

** The Twins actually had a total of 42 saves on the season. Other than Joe Nathan’s 39, three players each had one: Matt Guerrier, Brian Bass and Craig Breslow.

** With his 33 starts, Nick Blackburn started five more games than any other starting pitcher for the team. The next closest was Scott Baker with 28.

** Justin Morneau played in every single game in ‘08. It has been questioned whether he should have taken a day off in September, but you can’t argue that he’s a gamer.

** In just 93 games, Denard Span tied for the team lead in the triples category with seven. Imagine what a whole season would entail.

** The Twins offense scored 718 runs in ‘07, and in this ‘08 season scored 829. They also upped their team average from .264 in ‘07 to .279 in ‘08.

Matt Cain? That's Interesting

I came across a story that had three parts in one. Those parts were Matt Cain, Delmon Young and the Minnesota Twins. I continue to hear rumors that the Twins want to unload Delmon Young to the Giants. As a Giants fan who lives in Minneapolis, I think this is a great idea. Twins fans are upset with Young because he didn't immediately produce, but he's only 23 with...

Most Improved Prospects: Walk Rate

In 2007, the two top prospects that led the walk rate improvement list were Luke Hughes (#2) and Brian Dinkelman (#1). Dinkelman followed up in 2008 with a solid performance at high-A Fort Myers (though he was two years older than most of the competition) and was revered by Base... ...

Cain to Twins?

According to Chris Haft, the Twins are very interested in Giants pitcher Matt Cain and would be willing to trade Delmon Young for him. While the Giants would not simply do a one-for-one trade, it would definitely be interesting if the Twins tossed in a solid prospect. Young failed to find his power this season, but a switch to the NL might help that. Not only that, but scouts believe...

Wes: We've Been Here Donkey's Yearsa??But Rafael Is Good For Club

Against West Brom at the weekend, both Gary Neville and Wes Brown found themselves on the bench, with Rafael Da Silva starting at right back. Neville replaced the Brazilian with just over an hour played, whilst Wes remained on the bench throughout. Whilst I think it's a great thing to have so many competent players on [...]

Like The Sound Of This Da Silva Chant?

One thing that always impresses me about United's support, despite the flack our fans receive, is the vast songsheet we have. New songs are churned out on a regular basis with a lot of these being sung weekly at our home and away fixtures. It always amazes me when the away fans sing a song or [...]

Tigers name Rick Knapp pitching coach

The Tigers found their pitching coach, and they poached him from the Twins. He is Rick Knapp and he's served as the minor league pitching coordinator for the last 12 years in the Minnesota organization. I really like this move. The Twins have a tradition of producing striking throwing machines on a regular basis, [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Tigers name Rick Knapp...
