The Major League Baseball Players Association has called a 12:30pm ET press conference from Yankee Stadium as the time for David Ortiz to address the media regarding his positive steroid test as part of the 2003 Survey Test. Joining Ortiz will be Michael Weiner, the incoming executive director of the MLBPA. The press conference will be aired on NESN.
Ortiz and Manny Ramirez' names were leaked to The New York Times as being part of 104 names that came up positive for performance-enhancing substances during a joint MLB/MLBPA "Survey Test" to determine how prevalent steroid use was in baseball. The results were to remain anonymous and confidential. The Survey Test was done to determine if manatory drug testing in Major League Baseball would occur, should more than 5 percent of the players test positive.
