Better Understanding Jose Fernandez

As good as Jose Fernandez is, there still exists a critical angle. Fernandez, of course, pitches for the Marlins, and the Marlins get a lot of things wrong. The Internet usually doesn’t let those things go by unacknowledged, and the Marlins, this year, placed Fernandez on their opening-day roster. Fernandez was coming straight from Single-A, and had the Marlins waited even just...

Beginning the first of four series this month against teams either leading a division or holding a wild-card spot the Marlins showed playoff-caliber hunger in Friday’s 10-0 Interleague victory over Cleveland. Particularly...

The Cleveland Indians went up against a bad bull tonight in Miami

[Box Score] My buddy Justin (the obnoxious Indians fan) called me this afternoon. I asked him if he was worried about the Indians coming out flat this weekend after being on such a roll – the Indians had won eight in a row entering tonight. Worried? Of course he wasn’t. He told me that Francona won’t allow these guys to lose to a team like Miami. They won’t come out flat...
