Burnett took his first bullpen session since suffering a fractured right orbital bone in spring training.Burnett, who need facial surgery on March 2 after getting hit with a foul ball during bunting drills, worked out in the right-field bullpen while his teammates were on the field Saturday. Starling Marte (and others) sent to minor league camp

The Pirates made a few more cuts this morning, including sending the scorching-hot Starling Marte down to minor league camp even though he's 13-for-25 with three homers this spring. Gorkys Hernandez, Kyle McPherson, Bryan Morris, and Justin Wilson all went down with him. There aren't really any surprises in that group; of the quintet that went down today Wilson was really...

Spring Training: The Phils’ late rally comes up short as they lose to the Pirates, 3-2.

Twins 10, Pirates 0

Well, I’d say the Twins got sufficient revenge from the beatdown the other day in Fort Myers. At the plate: The Pirates were hitless until the eighth inning. Brandon Boggs broke up the impending no-no with a single, and was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Twins starter Francisco Liriano struck out six in five innings. On the mound: Charlie Morton had a rough day...

Erik Bedard: 2011 Fantasy Baseball Sleeper

Author: Andrew SwansonOne key to winning a fantasy baseball league is finding value in the latter stages of the draft, especially starting pitchers who can provide help with wins and strikeouts without hurting a team’s overall ERA. Late round value picks who pan-out can also be excellent trade bait to help bolster other weak areas of a fantasy roster. After spending all of 2010...

Pirates prospect interview: Gerrit Cole

Pirates number one draft pick Gerrit Cole took the mound, and was easily the big draw at minor league camp on Tuesday. As a small crowd viewed the 2.5 inning simulated game, mostly focusing on Cole. The right-hander was topping out at 98 MPH, and flashing a 91 MPH slider. PiratesDugout.com's George Von Benko caught up with Cole.

Fantasy Forecast: Pittsburgh Pirates

Author: Andrew SwansonThis winter is going to be long and hard for Pennsylvania sports fans, as the Steelers ended a promising season with a Super Bowl loss to Green Bay and the Pirates begin what will likely be a record setting 19th straight losing season. Pirate fans are nothing if not loyal. Perhaps hopelessly loyal of a team that has struggled to win since the days of Andy Van...
