In continuing on with our series of looking at the 2011 Diamondbacks roster, we move on from the starter behind the plate in Miguel Montero to his backup in veteran Henry Blanco.
The 40-year-old Blanco was brought in last offseason by the D’Backs to add some insurance and a veteran presence to the catcher position. Despite not playing a lot, Blanco didn’t disappoint in his first season in the desert.
In 37 games where he had 112 at-bats, Blanco hit .250 with eight home runs and 12 RBI’s. His batting average was the best since when he was with the Cubs in 2006, his long ball totals were the second best of his long career and he drove in his most runs since 2009.
To the surprise of no one, Blanco was great defensively behind the plate as well.
