Injuries were story of the 2011 season for Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew. After playing at least 135 games for four straight seasons, Drew came no where close to that mark in 2011. The Diamondbacks shortstop missed the first four games of the season due to abdominal pain that he suffered during spring training. Drew then had a season-ending injury when he slid into home plate and collided with Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy on July 20. You knew immediately that Drew had a gruesome ankle injury that was going to keep him out for the rest of the year. That indeed ended up being the case, but that wasn’t the end of Drew’s injury issues. About a month ago, Drew had surgery for a sports hernia problem. The 28-year-old has yet to run or perform any baseball activities and some question whether he will be ready for the start of the 2012 campaign. Arizona has plenty of depth at shortstop just in case Drew isn’t ready for the start of the year. The Diamondbacks front...

2011 Arizona Diamondbacks Player Evaluations: Aaron Hill

After the big season that Kelly Johnson had in 2010, no one could have imagined that the Diamondbacks would have someone else manning the second base position at the end of 2011. During 2010, Johnson set career highs in home runs and RBI’s and put together his second best batting average of his career. Then came 2011 where KJ struggled dramatically with the bat. In his second...

D-backs have short shopping list

The winter meetings, major league baseballs version of the preholiday shop-a-thon, begins Monday. You can almost feel Kevin Towers trigger finger twitching. All those general managers. All those agents. All those windows of opportunity. All those possibilities. But unlike last winter, when Towers retooled the Diamondbacks into the NL West champion by adding free agent closer...

Lyle Overbay is still finding work

Lyle Overbay hit a combined .234/.310/.360 with the Pirates and Diamondbacks next year. He only hit nine home runs all year. The Diamondbacks apparently want to bring him back for another year. Of course, the D'Backs will almost certainly finish with a better record than the Pirates in 2012 and the Pirates are playing Clint Barmes more than $10 million over the next two years...

D'Backs Have Made Offer To Lyle Overbay
