In continuing on with looking at the 2011 Diamondbacks, we move on from the men behind the plate at catcher to a position in first place which saw a number of guys play the position throughout the 2011 campaign. One of those guys was Lyle Overbay, who was signed by the club on Aug 13 after he was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates a week earlier. In his return trip to the Arizona organization, the 34-year-old did a pretty solid job in the final month and a half of the season. Overbay struggled with the bat in his time with Pittsburgh before being replaced by Derrek Lee. In 103 games in which he had 352 at-bats, he had only eight homers and 37 RBI’s while hitting only .227, well below his career average. Overbay also swung and missed a lot striking out 77 times. His return trip to Arizona brought much better stats for the first baseman.
