Some were pointing at 2011 as a big year for Max Scherzer, hoping that the then 26-year old would take the next step forward in his development. While Scherzer set a career high in wins, his ERA jumped into the mid-4's and came well short on those expectations of taking a leap forward.

Player Profile #198: Brennan Boesch | OF | DET

For two seasons now Boesch has put up very good numbers in the first half followed by a disappointing second half. It’s the reason why he’s more of  a late-round flier than anything else. We’ll have to see how his power comes back after tearing a thumb ligament that forced him to miss the final 1 1/2 months last year. In his career he has 605 at-bats in either...

Tigers Top 20 Seasons: #20 1991

In reviewing the history of the Detroit Tigers, I often think about the best seasons to be a Tigers fan.  So, I am writing a series of posts listing the top 20 seasons in Tigers history.  There is no specific formula for determining the best seasons, but there are some criteria which I consider carefully.  Playoff appearances, especially those leading to world championships are, of course,

Tigers Willing To Deal Jacob Turner

The Tigers have made it known to other teams that they are willing to trade Jacob Turner in a deal for the right pitcher, tweets Buster Olney of ESPN.com.  The Tigers have seemed willing to deal the right-hander in the past but this is the first indication that they are actively advertising Turner's availability. Turner, 20, had a big fan in A's GM Billy Beane and was...

Tigers Interested in Garza

When Nick Cafardo recently wrote in the Boston Globe about the Tigers possibly being interested in Cubs right hander Matt Garza, it sounded like speculation to me so I didn't take it too seriously.  There apparently might be something to it though as Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports is now reporting the same thing.  As you might expect, there are several other teams who are interested...

Tigers out to complete road they traveled in '11

As manager Jim Leyland will no doubt point out when the Tigers report to Spring Training in February, all of the honors and success from 2011 are now history. Detroit will start 2012 with a clean slate, having accomplished nothing. But it will also return one of the most talented clubs in the league -- and will enter the season looking to finish what it started.

Miggy 'rates' among game's greatest

Tigers' slugger Miguel Cabrera's dominance in "rate stats" over the past two seasons nearly put him in the company of some of history's greatest first basemen.
