Making his second start since returning from the disabled list, Arizona Diamondbacks starter Daniel Hudson went eight innings against the San Diego Padres, allowing two runs with three strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season. This week is probably the last week you may be able to pick up Hudson cheap in a trade so now is the time to move if you are looking to upgrade a rotation spot.
First basemen Paul Goldschmidt is getting on a little bit of a roll for the Diamondbacks with a 10-game hitting streak and Saturday night he hit his third home run in his last six games. He has also raised his batting average 40 points since May 1, boosting it from .230 up to .270 after last night’s 1-for-5 game.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Tony Campana stole two more bases Saturday night giving him 18 for the season and seven in his last five games, despite only starting two of those contests. If the team would throw him out there on a more consistent basis, his value would be so much higher wi...

Elderly fan's good luck rubs off on Parra
SAN DIEGO -- Call it the magic touch. Or maybe the laying on of hands.
Whatever it was, it worked.
Gerardo Parra hit a home run Sunday after asking an elderly female fan sitting near the on-deck circle to touch his bat before he went to the plate in the seventh inning. Parra was loosening to hit when he noticed the lady, whom he guessed was about 90.

Drew nearing rehab assignment; no timetable
SAN DIEGO -- Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson held his arms straight out in front of him and attempted to rotate them outward. The right one made it fine. The left one balked, the result of a surgery in which Gibsons ulna was shortened, plated and sewed back into place.
Good as new? No. Good enough to play? You bet.
Gibson was illustrating a point about Stephen Drew, whose right...
Goldschmidt on a roll after slow start
Paul Goldschmidt is on the best run of his major league career, but it is not like he has tapped into a secret formula in his first full season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. "He's putting in the work," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "He has a better swing path. He has his mechanics down better. He's quicker to the ball, more relaxed." Goldschmidt...

Daniel Hudson pitched eight strong innings and Paul Goldschmidt homered, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.

D-backs picking up steam in NL West race
SAN DIEGO Trevor Cahill and Paul Goldschmidt look right at home here.
Cahill grew up a few miles up I-5, in Oceanside.
Goldschmidt just seems to hit it that far.
With Cahill and Goldschmidt providing the impetus, the Diamondbacks took a series from San Diego and crept another step closer to the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-0 victory at Petco Park on Sunday.

After turnaround talk, D-backs put it together
SAN DIEGO -- Kirk Gibson made it clear before Saturday's game: It's time to stop talking about last year.
"We need to redefine who we want to be," Gibson said.
The new Diamondbacks got off to a good start with a 4-2 victory over the Padres in a game that offered plenty to build on.
Daniel Hudson made the best start of his injury-shortened season, Willie Bloomquist...
Cahill hoping Padres answer for recent slump
Trevor Cahill wasn't at his best in his NL debut, but the San Diego Padres weren't able to take advantage.
The Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander has not been as fortunate lately.
Cahill will go for his first victory in six starts Sunday when the Diamondbacks and major league-worst Padres close out their series at Petco Park.
Acquired from Oakland during the offseason,...
Diamondbacks 6, Padres 0
Trevor Cahill threw a six-hit shutout and Paul Goldschmidt, Miguel Montero and Gerardo Parra homered to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday.
Cahill threw his second career shutout and complete game. His other came with Oakland on Aug. 2, 2010 in a 6-0 win against Kansas City when he threw a three-hitter.

'Unraveled': Crazy eighth dooms D-backs
SAN DIEGO -- What began with a misunderstanding ended with an avalanche of trouble for the Diamondbacks.
Benches cleared and bullpens emptied after D-backs center fielder Chris Young was buzzed by a high-and-tight fastball in the top of the eighth inning Friday night. After order was restored, the real damage in the Padres' eventual 7-1 victory began.
It started when D-backs...

Friars Falter in Final Two Games, Lose Series To Arizona

But their bullpen couldn’t keep them in it on Saturday, and the offense took Sunday off, as they lost yet another series to Arizona. Yasmani Grandal looked impressive in his inning and a half of play on Saturday night but was surprisingly sent back...
