David Freese (credits below) St. Louis doesn't seem too phased about saying bye-bye to Pujols. Beltran, Holliday and Freese all went yard in the 3rd en route to a 11-5 win over the Brewers. Freese is now 5 for 10 in his first 2 games and continuing right where he left off from last years postseason. That's a lot of coin saved for the Cards if they can keeping winning without Pujols.Speaking of Albert, he went 0-3, but luckily Jered Weaver was on top of his game, whiffing 10 poor Royals through 8 innings.Adam Dunn is back baby! It may have been his only hit of the night, but Big Daddy Dunn made it count, reminding us that he is still one of the most prolific home run hitters of the past decade. Unfortunately, it was enough to take down the Rangers behind Colby Lewis' 9Ks. Alexi Ogando, Mike Adams and Joe Nathan kept the Sox to one hit over 3 innings. Jake Arrieta took down the Twins, holding them to 2 hits over 7 innings behind Nick Markakis' triple and homer. The Ra...

Cards remain a threat with Carpenter sidelined

MILWAUKEE Mike Matheny held out hope as long as he could that pitcher Chris Carpenter would be healthy enough to return to the St. Louis rotation by Opening Day. When it became clear during spring training that Carpenter would miss extended time into the regular season, Matheny, the Cardinals manager, had no choice but to call for a backup plan. As backup plans go, he can do a...

The St. Louis Cardinals Aren’t Feeling the Marlins New Stadium

Jayson Stark did an article for ESPN yesterday that talked about some of the St. Louis Cardinals’ reactions to the new stadium in Miami. I found some of the comments pretty damn funny… Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman: “I just feel like, if it were up to me — and it’s not; nobody asked me, and I don’t know why anybody would care about my opinion — but if I was building...

Picking up where they left off

So far, the St. Louis Cardinals are making it look easy in 2012. And while no one would say anything in 2011 was easy—maybe when they put Game 7 of the World Series out of reach…maybe—the Cards are playing a lot like they did at the end of last season. And that’s no small feat, for a couple of reasons. Mike Matheny and his revamped coaching staff may not have been tested...

More Notes - Cardinals Justified in Letting Pujols Walk?

The St. Louis Cardinals decided to let Albert Pujols walk in free agency and the move is paying off. The defending champions are off to a 2-0 start and their "great" first baseman is hitless in his new home.Ok maybe I'm jumping the gun a little. Pujols lined out in his first Angels at-bat, but you can sense his impact to the culture and atmosphere around the whole Angels...

Three To Watch: Cardinals Meet The Brewers

Opening Day is in the books for the defending champions, now the St. Louis Cardinals will play the remainder of the month against the Central Division and it starts with a series in Milwaukee against the Brewers.
