One of the most intriguing players in the 2012 fantasy baseball drafts is Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun. Currently I have him ranked number 21 in my 2012 fantasy baseball rankings with the assumption that his 50 game suspension will be upheld. But his ranking and his projection that I have for him at around 350 at bats is not really his true roster value but the value for him alone.
Unlike most players that tend to get injured during the season like a Coco Crisp or a Ryan Doumit, you know that at some point during the season they are going to get hurt, you just never know when. In Braun’s case, we know that he is missing the first 50 games of the season so if we want to draft him or buy him in an auction, we can plan accordingly.
In a draft format, it is a little easier to cover his loss because if the league requirements is for five outfielders, we can draft a sixth outfielder at any time. There is typically not a rule that says you have to draft your 23 man roster ...

Column: Braun's tale is spring training's juiciest
Of all the story lines threading their way across spring training, Ryan Braun's is the most delicate, not to mention the juiciest.
Braun is scheduled to report to Milwaukee Brewers camp Friday, coming off the best season of his career and still awaiting word on whether he'll be suspended for the first 50 games of this one. To say he's had an awkward offseason doesn&...
Brewers begin still waiting for word on Ryan Braun
Ryan Braun's navy blue No. 8 uniform hangs in one of his corner lockers with a pair of perfectly crisp white pants. Four shoeboxes are stacked in his second space.
The wait for Milwaukee's NL MVP is on. The Brewers expect to hear any day whether arbitrator Shyam Das will uphold Braun's 50-game suspension for a positive drug test.

Brewers Non-Roster Invitees: Pitchers
Every year, the non-roster player is an overlooked-yet-essential part of spring training baseball: A minor league guy who is invited to big league camp for the purposes of making sure the regulars aren't pressed into duty too suddenly. This is usually a pretty good deal for both sides, as the player gets some time in front of the major-league brass while eating better clubhouse...
Matheny plans to be more "hands on" than La Russa
New St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny inherits a ballclub that enters the 2012 season as the defending World Series Champions. But he also inherits a ballclub that is very different than the ones from years past. Former manager Tony La Russa, first baseman Albert Pujols, and pitching coach Dave Duncan are all gone for one reason or another. Matheny, in his rookie season...

The 2012 Brewers Rotation: Flying Under the Radar?
Ahh, the smell of pine tar, leather, and oil. The sound of the crack of the bat and the snap of the catchers mitt. Yes, it's that time of year again as Spring Training is here once again. Today marks the return of the National League Central Champion Milwaukee Brewers as pitchers and catchers officially report, even though most of them and the rest of the team were at Maryvale...
Don’t Marcum Down For An Extension Just Yet
Pitchers and catchers began to report to camps last week, signifying that baseball is close to resuming. Two of the pitchers that reported to camp — Matt Garza and Shaun Marcum — are currently seeking contract extensions from their respective teams. Garza put together the best year of his career in his first season with the Cubs, while Marcum helped lead the Brewers back...

If it weren't for bad luck when it comes to the opening of spring training, John Axford might not have any at all.
Marcum says he'd like to remain with Brewers long-term
Two key members of the starting rotation, Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum, both are free agents at the end of the season, and the Brewers are expected to try to sign at least one to a contract extension at some point.
Brewers confident they're still contenders without Fielder
The Brewers have heard critiques that tough times are coming. No one in the camp is suggesting that last year's feats can be easily duplicated. But umbrage is taken with anyone who says Milwaukee will not be a playoff contender in 2012.
Entire Brewers rotation returns
The Brewers face a rare event this spring training - the entire starting rotation returns.
Braun plans to be in camp for full-squad workout
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said that left fielder Ryan Braun remains upbeat amid his long appeal of a drug suspension, and is planning to be in camp for the team's first full-squad workout on Saturday.
