Ryan Dempster (credits below) The trade deadline was kind to first place teams as six teams either in first place or within three games of first place made deals to bolster their clubs. In a very Brian Cashman-esque move, the Yankees acquired 3B Casey McGehee from the Pirates in exchance for RP Chad Qualls and Cash considerations. From 2009 to 2010 Casey McGehee was the new rising star at 3B in Milwaukee hitting .301 and .285 respectively smacking 39 Homers and 170 runs batted in, since he has fallen off a bit hitting only .227 with an on base percentage under .290 and only 21 homers. The Yankees need another right handed batter and if McGehee can utilize the 318 foot left field to his advantage he could be a nice filler until Alex Rodriguez returns. Ryan Dempster was rumored in association with at least four teams, most notably the Dodgers, Yankees and Rangers. In the end he goes to Texas to play for the Al West first place Rangers. Dempster who only has 5 wins in 2012 thus ...

Ryan Dempster took out a full-page ad in the Chicago Tribune to thank Cubs fans
Ryan Dempster angered a few Cubs fans by not approving a deal with the Atlanta Braves because he wanted to go to the Dodgers and then ended up with the Rangers instead. But Dempster attempted to calm any bad blood that Cubs fans have for him on Friday by taking out a full-page ad thanking them for their support while he was a Cub.

Ryan Dempster was allowed to listen to trade negotiations between Cubs & Dodgers
Leading up to Major League Baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline one of the ongoing sagas was where Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster would end up, if anywhere at all. For a while it seemed like he was headed to the Atlanta Braves, but that never materialized. The Los Angeles Dodgers were a preferred [...]
McGehee Trade: By The Numbers
When the trade deadline came and went yesterday the Yankees remained relatively quiet. However, the Yankees did fill one need with the under-the-radar acquisition of third basemen Casey McGehee from the Pittsburgh Pirates for reliever Chad Qualls.
McGehee, 29, fills the roll of a back-up infielder that can play both first and third base. McGehee comes in at the perfect time Alex...
Dempster's winding trip to Texas
A week ago, around the time the Texas Rangers first expressed interest in Ryan Dempster, there was virtually no chance they would get him, little chance he would be their primary target.
Think of all that had to happen, every domino that had to fall, for the Rangers to be in the position they were in Tuesday, scrambling to acquire the right-handed pitcher in the final minutes before...
Dempster had right to block trade
Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein says Ryan Dempster had a right to block a trade to Atlanta and does not deserve criticism for it.
Epstein says they were on ''great terms throughout the entire process.''
The Cubs wound up trading their ace to Texas for two minor leaguers. But Epstein acknowledged he would have preferred to complete the deal with...
Traded to Yankees, McGehee shaves off beard
Traded to the Yankees, Casey McGehee decided to shave his beard in private. No televised grooming, like Jose Reyes had when his dreadlocks were shorn on the MLB Network last winter.
''Reyes might be able to pull it off. I don't think they want to watch a chubby white guy shave his beard off,'' McGehee said Wednesday after reporting to New York.

Rangers 15, Angels 9
Josh Hamilton drove in four runs and the Rangers offense bailed out Ryan Dempster in his Texas debut in a 15-9 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night.
The Rangers broke an 8-8 tie after six innings when they scored four runs in the seventh, including Hamilton's two-run double, and added three in the eighth.
Dempster allowed eight runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings...
New Cub Christian Villanueva
The main piece aquired in the Ryan Dempster trade was 21 year old Christian Villanueva. Villanueva was signed as an international free agent out of Mexico by the Rangers in 2008 and just recently turned 21. He's played the entire season in High A.
His first season in the US was in 2010 in the AZL. Over 210 plate appearances he hit .314/.365/.431. That was good for a .370 wOBA...

Rangers outslug Angels again, 15-9
Where did this offense come from? Can it stay awhile? Please? Already in August, the Rangers have scored 26 runs. They didn’t even reach 24 runs in July until the 15th.
And how about that Mike Olt debut? He started at first base and batted eighth tonight. And he wasted no time getting his first hit — a single in his first at bat. And he scored a little while later...
Leave the MLB Trade Deadline Alone
In the aftermath of another busy trade deadline in MLB, I have seen a few national baseball writers call for the non-waiver trade deadline to be moved into August. Their primary rationale is the second wild card team, which thus far has achieved its desired goal: to keep more teams in the hunt for the postseason (or at least allow more teams to believe they have a shot, even temporarily...
