Throughout the offseason, The Nats Blog will look back at every player’s 2012 season to summarize and analyze his performance, and we’ll look ahead to his possible role in 2013. We’ll go from #1 Steve Lombardozzi all the way to #63 Henry Rodriguez until Spring Training. Enjoy. Traditionally a starter, Tom Gorzelanny pitched his first season serving solely as a reliever in 2012 (save for one spot start to allow Gio Gonzalez to rest before the National League Division Series), and it was one of the best seasons of his career. Gorzelanny frustrated Washington Nationals fans in 2011 with his 2-6 win-loss record and his 4.03 ERA through 105 innings and 15 starts (yes, Tom Gorzelanny was a starter as recently as one full season ago. Let that sink in for a minute). But in 2012 he all but won them over with his drastically improved performance. The 30 year old posted a sub-three ERA for the first time in his major league career last season, his 2.88 mark nearly half his ca...

Brewers sign free-agent SS Gonzalez

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed free-agent shortstop Alex Gonzalez to a one-year major league deal, according to a source. Gonzalez will make $1.5 million and will have the opportunity to earn nearly $1 million more in performance bonuses. Gonzalez played just 24 games for the Brewers last season. In 2011 he hit .241 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI in 149 games for the Atlanta Braves...

WBC leaves Brewers shorthanded behind home

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers quite possibly have the best catching duo in baseball. On one hand that's a great thing, on the other, it's creating a problem because both were wanted to represent their countries in the World Baseball Classic. Jonathan Lucroy will play for Team USA and Martin Maldonado for Puerto Rico, leaving Milwaukee without both catchers for the majority of...

Attanasio confident in Brewers young pitchers

MILWAUKEE -- Mark Attanasio learned a valuable lesson last season: Spending more money doesn't always result in more wins. The Brewers owner stretched his wallet thin last season with payroll at 98.2 million, and the team failed to make the playoffs. This season, Attanasio is quite alright with payroll dropping to somewhere in the 80 million range because it provides him and...

Brewers' Gallardo determined to prove self

MILWAUKEE -- For most of his career, Yovani Gallardo has been overshadowed at the top of the Milwaukee Brewers rotation. From Ben Sheets to C.C. Sabathia and then Zack Greinke, Milwaukee has had three bona fide aces for the majority of Gallardo's six years in the big leagues. With Greinke and the other established veterans gone from the Brewers rotation, Gallardo is now the...

Gonzalez re-signs to serve as Brewers' backup shortstop

Throughout the winter, the Milwaukee Brewers stayed in touch with the agent for Alex Gonzalez, letting it be known they would love to have the veteran shortstop back in 2013. Gonzalez, who turns 36 this month, was the team's starter at short last season before blowing out his right knee sliding into second base in early May in San Francisco. He was lost for the season with...

King Animal Roars Friday at Milwaukee’s Eagles Club

After a ridiculously long hiatus of over 15 years, Soundgarden is back once again to play an epic show Friday at Milwaukee’s Eagles Club.  The band released their first proper record since 1996’s Down On The Upside in 2012, titled King Animal.  Soundgarden had called it quits around the time the ‘grunge’ era was in its autumn days.  While fans were disappointed...

John Axford signs pregnant woman’s belly

Perhaps, through his pen, Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford passed down some of his athletic abilities to this not-yet-born baby.Axford signed Kristin Corcoran’s belly and then she posted the picture to twitter with the caption,  “Thanks for the autographs & for reassuring that signing my belly wasn’t the strangest request you’ve had!”

You Can Buy Front Row Amy’s Van

We've reached that point in the offseason where there's not much to write about. Well, the Brewers offseason moves up to this point (or lack thereof) haven't given us much fodder either, and it's not like we capitalized on writing something the few times a post was warranted... like that clutch Kelvim Escobar inking. But this post-Winter Meetings, pre-Spring Training...

Brewers 2013 preview

It’s that time again! Two weeks until pitchers and catchers report!!! Puts a smile on my face. The best part is that there is no hype. No expectations with this team. No pressure. Just the way I like it. Now, relax and enjoy the LosersBracket official positive Brewers Preview post, no doubt to be followed by frantic ranting throughout the season. 2013 could be special! What...

Kid Blogger Interviews Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio

Hey baseball fans! I have yet another interview for you! This time, it is with Milwaukee Brewers owner, Mark Attanasio! He was a really interesting guy and a fun person to interview. Fantasy Baseball 2013: Milwaukee Brewers Hitting-Pitching Projections

Photo courtesy of Flickr user Jeramey Jannene. Milwaukee Brewers — Predicted Finish: Third Place, AL Central The Brewers are always one of my favorite teams to root for, maybe it is because I am marrying a Wisconsinite, or maybe it is because cheese curds are one of my favorite snacks, or maybe it is the simple fact that I typically field 2-3 Brewers on each of my fantasy teams...

Brewers Rumors: Milwaukee Interested in Lyle Overbay

The Milwaukee Brewers are talking to free agent first baseman Lyle Overbay about a potential minor league contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. #Brewers talking to free-agent 1B Overbay about minor-league deal.
