The fantasy baseball waiver wire market got a little boost today with the announcement of Johnny Damon signing with the Cleveland Indians. Damon should take over in left field for the Indians moving Shelley Duncan to the bench. I would expect similar ratios of numbers that Damon put up last season and would definitely be looking to grab him in mixed-league formats as well as AL-only leagues.

In addition to Damon, here are some other names to consider adding to your team that might be sitting out on the waiver wire in week two of the fantasy baseball season.

12 / 15 team mixed league:

RP – Fernando Rodney (TB) – the closer for now in Tampa Bay after picking up three saves in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of work. With Joel Peralta struggling and Kyle Farsnworth on the disabled list, he should continue to hold the job as long as he is converting save chances.

American League Only:

1B – Daric Barton (OAK) – with Brandon Allen demoted to the minor leagues, Barton is going to see the majority of at bats at first base for Oakland. We know what he brings to the table, mostly empty stats, but if you are short a first basemen or corner hitter and need someone to give you 350-400 at bats, Barton can give that to you. Just know that there is no upside to owning him.

RP – Francisco Cordero (TOR) – Sergio Santos picked up a save in his last appearance after blowing his first two chances. The Blue Jays gave up solid players to acquire Santos so he may have a longer leash, but given his shakiness to start the season, Cordero is worth reserving for the time being if he is still on the waiver wire.

National League Only:

SP – Joe Wieland (SD) – the San Diego Padres are short on starting pitchers with Dustin Moseley and Tim Stauffer both on the disabled list. Enter Wieland who was acquired last season from the Texas Rangers in the Mike Adams trade. Wieland will get the start Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and is worth a look given the fact that he pitches at PETCO Park. Keith Law from ESPN had Wieland ranked #8 among Padres prospects while Baseball America had him ranked #7. Wieland has a 3.52 ERA through 7 2/3 innings at AAA this season with 10 hits allowed and 11 strikeouts.

OF – Xavier Nady (WAS) – Nady is going to be relevant a little longer in NL-only leagues with news that Michael Morse is going to be shut down for the next six weeks after aggravating his lat strain. Nady is batting .267 in 15 at bats this season with a stolen base. He qualifies at first base as well as in the outfield with a 10 game minimum for position eligibility.

OF – Mark DeRosa (WAS) – see Xavier Nady. DeRosa is a little more interesting in terms of position flexibility since he qualifies at first base (10 games) and third base (16 games). On the season, he is hitting .077 in 13 at bats with one RBI.
