Cardinals Fan in Cubs Land:
Each year I like to compile a composite prospect list,
taking the top prospects lists from across the web, assigning points to
each ranking and then using these points to create a composite ranking.Â
I do this each February for the top 100 prospects in baseball, which
can be found at my MLB Composite Prospect Index site and I also do it for each team, including my favorite, the Cardinals.
Below is my final Cardinals Top 10 Composite Prospect listing. My preliminary list was posted on January 12th and I have since doubled the number of sites included in the list. I have also added a separate page with a link to the spreadsheet as well as links to the expert sites that I used for the composite prospect list.
2013 Cardinals Top 10 Composite Prospect List (FINAL)
1. Oscar Taveras (140 points)

Every year, at this point in the baseball season, you start hearing a number of fans worrying because their favorite baseball team is losing most of its spring training games.
These reactions are inevitably followed by many others crying out that spring training games are completely useless as a predictor of regular season records.
I decided to examine whether teamsâ spring training...
Itâs no secret the St. Louis Cardinals are possibly the deepest team in baseball. Â From the big leagues down to rookie ballâthere is no franchise more loaded than the redbirds going into 2013 and many other reputable baseball publishers agree. JUPITER, Fla. Matt Carpenter wasn't sure how to react when he moved from second base back over to first base for the final few innings of Sunday's spring training game.
Carpenter has concentrated so hard on learning to play second base this spring that playing his more normal spot of first base almost seemed too easy.
"It's funny," Carpenter said. "...
JUPITER, Fla. Jon Jay has a message for the folks already anointing Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras as the next Mike Trout or Bryce Harper.
"Let the kid play," Jay said Monday. "Thats my biggest thing. Let the kid play and whatever comes of it, comes. He definitely does have a great talent and you can see that, but I hate when they try to label someone as the next...
In a spring training that has included worries about contract negotiations and the health of starting pitchers, the stability of a right elbow ligament for a position player could be the St. Louis Cardinalsâ biggest problem as games get underway.

Oh my, how time does fly. It is that time of year again! Pitchers and catchers have reported, and now teams have started playing spring training games. If one is particularly caught in the moment, one might be worried that the Cardinals are 0-2 so far in spring training play.
But since thatâs only two games, and spring training results have little to no correlation to regular seasonâ...
JUPITER (AP) -- Allen Craig has been prevented from playing first by a sore shoulder. The injury doesn't appear to have affected his swing, though.
Craig and Matt Holliday each hit their first homers of spring training, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Monday.
Craig was starting as the designated hitter. He reached base in all three...
Adam Wainwright made his first âstartâ in what could be a year full of both starts and stops. Of course heâs still over a month away from his first meaningful appearance of the year, but these days, not much he says or does is without meaning.
With the high stakes nature of his ongoing contract negotiations hanging over his 6â7â frame, the comparison machine is going crazy...
In several recent tweets, ESPNâs Buster Olney was sharing the thoughts of a talent evaluator offering his opinions as to why Kyle Lohse is still unsigned. The following quote comes from the evaluator with the conclusion apparently Olneyâs.
âWhenâs the last time you saw a pitcher leave St. Louis and do well elsewhere?â The Dave Duncan effect.
