On a long enough timeline, the survival rate drops to zero. At the beginning of the season, the Dodgers were everyone’s pick to win the NL West because the new ownership group had thrown over 200 million dollars at the team. Unfortunately, they didn’t get out of the gate well and Don Mattingly was very close to losing his job. Coming into Wednesday’s action, they were 85-59 and had a 13 game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Thankfully for Mattingly, the brass was patient and allowed things to work themselves out. They may or may not win the NL pennant, but they’ve put themselves in position to get to the World Series. Daily fantasy sports are about the here and now. Fantasy baseball is about the long haul. The two may not seem to mix on their face, but when you play the odds over the long haul you will tend to be more successful. Like the Dodgers, you might struggle in the early going, but when you make plays that make sense, they will pay off for you more often than not. The Dod...

Ricky Nolasco gives the Dodgers a bonafide No. 3 starter for the playoffs

When the Dodgers traded for Ricky Nolasco, I wasn't particularly a fan of the move. They didn't give up a lot of value and talent for him, but I just didn't see the fit. I'm happy to say I was completely wrong (not the first time, certainly not the last). Nolasco improved to 8-1 as a Dodger on Monday night by shutting down the soon-to-be-eliminated-from-division...

Mattingly optimistic Kemp will return this season

LOS ANGELES Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday he believes outfielder Matt Kemp will return to the lineup this season, despite a balky right hamstring that has slowed his comeback from a sprained ankle. Kemp is rehabbing at the Dodgers' minor league facility in Glendale, Ariz., and took 10 swings in a simulated game on Tuesday. Mattingly said Kemp had six hits, four...

Around The Web: Nolasco’s adjustments, Uribe’s redemption, Withrow emerges

Beyond The Box Score: The Ricky Nolasco trade has been paying off for the Dodgers, but it has a lot to do with how his approach has shifted for the better. With the postseason now just a month away, Nolasco has really begun to fine-tune his approach. The 30-year-old has only increased his reliance on his two breaking balls, throwing his slider and curveball 48% of the time in six...

Dodgers' Matt Kemp could return by end of September

There was talk earlier this week that the Los Angeles Dodgers could be without outfielder Matt Kemp for the remainder of the season. While you can't account for setbacks, especially when Kemp is involved, that no longer appears to be the projection. Kemp ran for the first time since aggravating his hamstring last week, and the Dodgers plan on having him resume running the bases...

Dodgers' Hanley Ramirez leaves with hamstring strain

The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled Hanley Ramirez out of last night's game with what they are describing as a mild hamstring strain.  The clubs made the move almost entirely as a precautionary measure.  Ramirez seemed to be fine after the game, but he did not talk with reporters about the injury. Austin Laymance of MLB.com says Ramirez was able to walk quickly through the clubhouse...

Dodgers raise ticket prices for 2014 season

It's going to cost more to attend Los Angeles Dodgers games in 2014. The team said Thursday that ticket prices are increasing in many sections of Dodger Stadium for the first time in two years. Team president and CEO Stan Kasten says the new ownership first wanted to prove to fans that it was committed to putting the best possible team on the field, provide a good fan experience...

Dodgers lose to Diamondbacks 4-1 in series finale

The Los Angeles Dodgers are closing in on clinching the NL West title just as the rival San Francisco Giants are coming to town. The Dodgers lost 4-1 to Arizona on Wednesday night, leaving their magic number at six and their lead at 12 games over the Diamondbacks. Los Angeles will start Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw in the first two games against the Giants. ''They...

The 2013 Ginter Hits Start Rolling In.

The chances of pulling a rare card of your favorite player from a product with a deep checklist are not great, but thankfully eBay exists to fill such voids. I was recently able to add No-Number Minis from 2013 Allen & Ginter of both Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw to my collection.Though they don't show it, these bad boys all have a print-run of 50. They represent the first...

D-backs lose in 11, fall back to .500

By BETH HARRIS AP Sports Writer LOS ANGELES -- Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke's two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. Van Slyke lined the homer off Josh Collmenter (4-3) into the lower left field seats, scoring Mark Ellis who singled just ahead of Van Slyke. It was the Dodgers...

Podcast: 'Dugout Blues' episode 55 - Dodgers, Uribe, Guerrero, Garcia

On this episode of "Dugout Blues," Jared Massey (Dodger Diamond) and I talk about the humbling sweep at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds. And no, it's not the end of the world. Juan Uribe had a hell of a game, belting three home runs on Monday night. This entire season has pretty much made up for the first two horrific seasons he spent in Dodger Blue. We touch...

Ryu touched up in loss to Diamondbacks

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paul Goldschmidt went 4 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Los Angeles 4-1 Wednesday night, snapping a five-game skid against the Dodgers and avoiding a sweep. Patrick Corbin (14-6) ended a three-game losing streak while improving to 2-0 in three starts at Dodger Stadium. The left-hander allowed one run and eight hits in 6...

Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks to Square off in Sydney, Australia in 2014 MLB Season-Opener

Major League Baseball is headed to the Land Down Under in the 2014 season. For the first time ever, regular-season MLB games will be played in Australia when the Dodgers take on the Diamondbacks for a two-game set in Sydney March 22-23 to kick off the 2014 season. It’s not the first time that the nation’s pastime opened up outside of the U.S. borders, though. In 1999, opening...

D-Backs rack up 15 hits in 4-1 win over the Dodgers

Left-hander Patrick Corbin shut down the Los Angeles Dodgers’ high-powered offense allowing just one run in 6 1/3 innings as the Diamondbacks avoided a sweep at Dodger Stadium with a win Wednesday night. Corbin took a shutout into the seventh inning before Yasiel Puig homered with one out bringing manager Kirk Gibson out of the Diamondbacks dugout with the hook. The win was just...
