The fantasy baseball tiers at shortstop are a little more complicated with players that also qualify at second base in the mix, such as Ben Zobrist, Danny Espinosa and Marco Scutaro. By using the below tiers with average draft position numbers, you should get a good feel of where certain players at shortstop will go in drafts. Here is a look at the 2013 fantasy baseball tiers for shortstops. Tier 1: Troy Tulowitzki Jose Reyes Hanley Ramirez Ramirez has been going a couple of picks ahead of Reyes in mock drafts but his numbers have been sliding the last couple of seasons. It depends if you want more power or more steals from your shortstop when picking between Reyes and Ramirez. Tier 2: Starlin Castro Ben Zobrist (2B) Jimmy Rollins Ian Desmond Desmond had a breakout season last year and has been going ahead of both Zobrist and Rollins in mock drafts but I am not ready to draft him that high based on last year’s numbers. Tier 3: Elvis Andrus Asdrubal Cabrera Of the top 10 shortstops for 2013, I think Cabrera has the best chance to out perform his average draft position. Injuries caused his numbers to drop the second half but I expect him to bounce back and return nice value this year. Tier 4: Danny Espinosa (2B) Derek Jeter Erick Aybar Alexei Ramirez Alcides Escobar Josh Rutledge Jeter’s ranking is assuming he is healthy to start the season as I am projecting him still for 600 at bats. Rutledge is the wild card in this group after coming up from Double-A last season, but he offers the chance to hit 15 home runs and steal 15 bases if he can adjust to major league pitching in his second season. Tier 5: J.J. Hardy Marco Scutaro (2B) Jhonny Peralta Zack Cozart Everth Cabrera Cabrera could steal 50 bases if he gets 500+ at bats. Last year his 398 at bats were a career high. Cozart should steal more bases this year and knock in a few more runs if he stays lower in the batting order. Tier 6: Jean Segura Andrelton Simmons Stephen Drew Jed Lowrie I don’t think Simmons is quite ready to perform up to mixed league value unless you are in an extremely deep league but he should score a ton of runs if he hits first in the order like the Braves have talked about.
