We continue with our 2013 prospect coverage here at the IBI with a look at the right-handed relievers in the Indians system. The Indians are overloaded with right-handed relief prospects and it is arguably the one position they are deepest at in the entire system. At the moment they have a Major League bullpen bursting at the seams with right-handed relievers, and that is the same thing for Triple-A Columbus and Double-A Akron. Tony looks at what right-handed relief options are available to the Indians in the future and breaks down the future and potential for the likes of Cody Allen, Shawn Armstrong, Rob Bryson, Preston Guilmet, Bryce Stowell, Grant Sides, Cody Penny and many others.

Trevor Bauer: Eccentric or just smarter than the rest of us?

It was the summer of 1998 in Santa Clara, California when Trevor Bauer threw his first pitch. A first-year player in what was largely a second-year team, his team’s starting pitcher had worked himself into a base-loaded, zero-out situation and the 7-year-old kid from North Hollywood was called upon to get out of the jam. He remembers standing on the mound prior to warm-ups thinking...

Vinnie Pestano to play for Team USA in World Baseball Classic

Vinnie Pestano will suit for the United States when they take the field for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Just got the second best phone call of my career. I’m going to be wearing the Stars and Stripes in the WBC. #trulyhonored #childhooddream — Vinnie Pestano (@VinnieP52) January 12, 2013 Pestano, 27, was one of the Tribe’s few bright spots in 2012, finishing the season...

Tribe Happenings: Indians should take advantage of market

What a fun offseason this has been for the Indians. They have made a few big trades, made some significant moves in free agency, and been in on lots of other players. But even though the Indians say they are probably done with their heavy lifting this offseason, Tony thinks they should take advantage of a unique opportunity this offseason to sign another big named free agent because...

Around the Farm: January 12, 2013

Cleveland prospects were playing in both Venezuela and Australia on Saturday night, and putting on quite the offensive display. In the VWL playoffs, Zeke Carrera was facing off against Asdrubal Cabrera and Jesus Aguilar, and helped his team take a 4-3 lead. He also had a hand in keeping a future Tribe teammate from scoring go-ahead run. Andrew Campbell continued a hot stretch with...

Chris Perez joins Pestano on Team USA

Player Profile #163: Michael Brantley | OF | CLE

Last year, in his fourth major league season, Michael Brantley took big steps toward being a productive everyday outfielder. His walk rate went from the 6.6%-6.9% range, where it had sat for his first three seasons, to 8.7%, and he cut his strikeout rate down from 15.3% to just 9.2%. Overall, his strikeout-to-walk ratio improved dramatically from 0.45 to 0.95. Toss in an increase...

Winter Ball Notebook: Aguilar returns to form

Winter Leagues Recap: Alen Hanson Sighting

In Australian Baseball League action from today, Adelaide lost 11-7 despite a big day from the recently traded Quincy Latimore. Just one day after being sent to the Cleveland Indians for Jeanmar Gomez, Latimore went 3-for-4, with three RBI’s, two doubles, a run scored and a walk. With the departure of Latimore, Stefan Welch once again became the only Pirates players in the Adelaide...
