Indians Baseball Insider:
The Cleveland Indians have already kicked off their season in Toronto, but the Lake County Captains are braving the cold at home in Eastlake.
The Captains open up their season on Thursday night, and they’re preparing for the cold weather to come. Despite the unfavorable Cleveland chill, the team is warming up to the anticipated new season.
This year’s team has nine players returning, though some had a very brief stint with the Captains last year, such as LeVon Washington who was sidelined with a hip injury, and Luis DeJesus, who was sent to short-season Mahoning Valley. The pitching staff is youthful, but it’ll also be one of the most exciting aspects of the team this year. Youth also lies at the shortstop position again this year. Last season, it was 18-year-old Francisco Lindor. This time, it’s 18-year-old Dorssys Paulino.
Scouting reports and in-depth looks can be found in Tony’s annual prospect countdown on the site and in his book, but here’s a season preview of what to expect ...

TORONTO -- Nick Swisher bobbed through the Cleveland Indians clubhouse after Tuesday nights season opener.Wheres that lineup card? Swisher said. From the sleepless nights to the gut-wrenching decisions in the dugout, Terry Francona couldn't be happier to be back managing again. Even if it doesn't always sound that way.
''I love doing this,'' the new Cleveland manager said before Wednesday's game at Toronto. ''Sometimes it kills you, but I don't want to do anything else. That's...

It’s a Start
Big right-hander Justin Masterson made his second consecutive opening day start for the Indians on Tuesday against the Blue Jays and overall was effective in six innings of work. However, Masterson did struggle with his pitch location in his first three innings as he surrendered three hits and walked four over that time frame and loaded the bases in the third inning...
This was a highly anticipated game for one reason; it marked the first start of the year for Ubaldo Jimenez. Like many others, I was excited to see the ‘new’ Ubaldo. There’s a lot riding on his performance this year and after hearing encouraging reports all spring, it was finally time to see him in action.
The Whole Nine
1. For the most part Jimenez looked...
The Cleveland Indians awarded Scott Kazmir with a rotation spot after a strong spring. However the 29 year old left hander will not be able to take the mound in his first scheduled start on Saturday. Kazmir suffered an abdominal strain on Monday and the Indians are considering recalling Trevor Bauer to make the start against Tampa Bay. During spring training Kazmir was in a competition...
The Indians started off their season with a win last night in Toronto. We know all about the new acquisitions and how the team was built. We also understand how the Clippers, Aeros and Lake County Captains fill out their rosters. But what about an independent league team like the Lake Erie Crushers?
The Crushers finished the 2012 season on September 2nd with a 6-2 loss to the Southern...

The Cleveland Indians started their 2013 season north of the border with a win over the Toronto Blue Jays. This was Indians manager Terry Francona’s first win with his new team. Justin Masterson pitched 6 innings giving up just 1 run and 3 hits. Masterson walked 4 and struck out 5 batters. In his first at bat for the Indians, Tribe center fielder Michael Bourn was almost decapitated...
It has never happened, but it might this year – the Cleveland Indians could face the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. Other match-ups are more likely — Nationals vs. Tigers, for instance — but Ohio’s teams may be on a collision course. It is less of a long shot than you might think.
On paper, the Reds are one of the best teams in baseball. They won 97 games last year...
EASTLAKE – The Lake County Captains kicked off the 2013 season with a 5-4 win over the Lansing Lugnuts, thanks to some timely offense and speed on the bases.
Right-hander Luis DeJesus took the bump first for the Captains to counter Lansing’s Javier Avenado. Avenado is a big right-hander whom the Blue Jays organization picked from the minor league Rule 5 draft back in 2012....
